Overview

Click Search above to search the site. Once you have made a search, you will also find a Result link above.

Settings on the Search page determine whether lyrics, notes to lyrics and/or 'Site notes' etc. will be searched, whether a search based on two criteria will retrieve items that meet criterion #1 and criterion #2, criterion #1 or criterion #2, or criterion #1 and not criterion #2, whether the search criteria should be treated as words or parts of words (for instance, should a search for "old" return only items containing that exact word or should it also return items that include, say, "older" or "Harold"). You can also specify whether the destinations of any links returned by your search should be displayed in the browser window that is already open or in a new one.

On the Search page click the Search button to make a search, click the Clear button to clear the two search criteria text areas, or click the Reset button if you also wish to reset search settings to their default values. The and, or and not operators only take effect if a search criterion is entered in both text areas. For a search based on a single criterion you may enter the text string or phrase in either of the two text areas. Do not enclose search strings or phrases in double or single quotation marks unless you actually want to search for quotations. Searches are case insensitive.

Under 'Site search' in the Options section you can select 'Remember settings' to have the site remember your search settings in between your visits to the site. You can also select 'Remember search' to always have the result of your last search to hand. It will then be displayed when you click Result above. On the 'Site navigation' page in the Options section you can select 'Search: Last viewed' to have the site display the last search result (if any) when you click Search in the menu to the left. You could then link directly to the Search page and have your saved search carried out whenever you click the link!
